World’s Smallest Park Vandalized

[UPDATE] Portland Parks & Recreation tells Portland news affiliates that the tree has now been returned.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Someone apparently vandalized the world’s smallest park last week. The park is in the middle of an intersection in Portland and it has just one tree. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department say it appears someone pulled the little guy out and took it.

The tree was replaced Wednesday with this Douglas Fir sapling (pictured right). Parks and recreation says they’re not going to bother going after the vandal.

The park was dedicated on Saint Patrick’s Day back in 1948. It became an official city park nearly 30 years later. The Guinness Book of World Records has declared it the world’s smallest park.
