A community meeting will be held at the Galice Community Hall at 4 p.m. this evening.
On August 7, an additional Level 1 notice was issued for the area of Galice Access Road, including the road north to the Graves Creek Bridge.
A red flag warning for thunderstorms with dry lightning will continue through the evening, thunderstorms to beginning around 2-3 p.m. with possible 30 percent chance of rain. As we move into this evening and Friday, the thunderstorms have potential to drop brief, yet heavy rainfall.
On August 6, the three fires included in the complex (Big Windy, Calvert Peak, and Jenny – formerly Windy 16) grew together into one fire.
Closures remain in place for the area including Bear Camp Road, Burnt Ridge Road from junctions with Forest Road 2300 to 3300, the Rogue River Trail from Grave Creek to Rogue River Ranch, and the BLM portion of the Wild Section of the Rogue River from Grave Creek to Mule Creek.
Evacuations include a Level 2 evacuation notice in place starting at the Marial Lodge and following the Rogue River east to Grave Creek, then north and west on the Marial Byway back to the Marial Lodge.
The formation of smoke columns is possible due to potential increased fire activity associated with clear skies.
A public meeting will be held at the Josephine County building at 102 South Redwood Highway in Cave Junction at 7 p.m. today. Information will be shared along with maps and presentations by fire managers.
A public meeting is planned for August 8, 2013 at the Karuk DNR in Orleans California from 6-7 p.m.
Health Advisory: The North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District (NCUAQM) continues to extend their smoke advisory for Del Norte, Humboldt and Trinity Counties, noting that there are separate advisories for Forks of Salmon, Klamath Glen, Orleans and Weitchpec. A Red Flag warning was issued for the fire and surrounding area due to the chance of lighting that will last through 11:00 pm Friday, August 9th. This morning over the fire will be mostly clear with clouds and potential lightning forming about 3:00 p.m. These lightning storms are predicted to bring rain.
There are no reports of homes burned. Seven minor injuries have been reported. Two outbuildings have burned.
Evacuations and Closures:
Cow Creek Road from Riddle into the fire area and from Glendale into the fire has been closed except for residents. The National Guard will be conducting traffic control the road blocks and not interfere with firefighters working in the area.
The Level 2 evacuation for McCullough Creek Road, Reuben Road, and Mt. Ruben Road in Douglas County and Lower Grave Creek, Grave Creek, and Lower Wolf Creek in Josephine County. The area from the community of Wolf Creek to Watertank Gulch is a Level 1 evacuation.
Residences in the area are still considered threatened. This means evacuations could be necessary at some point in the future. Any official evacuation orders would be issued by the Douglas County or Josephine County sheriff’s offices.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Whiskey Complex through Friday night because of predicted thunderstorms. The Weather Service predicts a 40% chance of thunderstorms on Thursday, and a 30% chance on Friday. Any storms are expected to be accompanied by rain, but crews and aircraft will be prepared to take action on any new fire starts.
