HARRIS BEACH, Ore. – A health advisory has been issued for water contact at Harris Beach in Curry County. Higher than normal bacteria levels were found at the east end of Goat Island.
Officials advise the public to avoid the ocean water, nearby creeks and also runoff flowing into the ocean. More susceptible is the elderly and also children. The bacteria in the water could cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes and other illnesses.
Neighboring beaches are not affected by this advisory. The high bacteria levels may be due to storm water runoff and animal waste from birds or even pets.
