MEDFORD, Ore. — On Wednesday, dozens of kids were joined by parents, pets, police and firefighters walking or riding to Medford’s Jackson Elementary School. That’s because it’s International Walk or Bike to School Day.
The principal says she hopes kids will continue to walk to school throughout the year, and keep safety in mind.
“We always encourage kids to walk in groups. Walk with buddies, leave at the same time right after school. There’s a lot of routes at our school that are on fairly main streets, Jackson, Columbus, and they do tend to walk together, but we always encourage kids to go together in groups,” explained Jackson Elementary Principal Kelly Soter.
After the walk the kids were treated to some free giveaways and a light breakfast. The walk began at McLoughlin Middle School and the Santos Center.
