[UPDATE 10:30 a.m.] — As of Monday morning, the search for a missing Shady Cove resident continues. Dwain Hodge, 57, was last seen early Sunday morning near Trail. There are currently search crews from Jackson, Josephine and Siskiyou counties working in the Trail area.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s office reported this morning that there’s also several K-9 teams involved. Due to the expected high temperatures, officials said they are concerned for Mr. Hodge’s safety.
NEAR TRAIL, Ore. — According to a press release, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Search and Rescue is currently searching for Dwain Hodge, 53, of Shady Cove. Hodge was last seen early this morning (Sunday) around 3 a.m. near Trail, when he approached a home and rang the doorbell.
Police say he asked a homeowner along the 27,000 block of Highway 62 for a ride to Grants Pass. The homeowner told Mr. Hodge to hold on and left him standing outside the home. When the homeowner returned, Hodge was gone.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Department officials say Dwain Hodge was originally reported missing by his family on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 9:40 p.m. when he went on a walk while the family was camping and then never returned to his family. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Jackson County Search and Rescue immediately started canvassing the area and performing ground searches for the man. According to a press release, there were confirmed sightings of Hodge in Shady Cove by several employees at the Chevron gas station, so the family requested the search be terminated; even though Jackson County Search and Rescue had not officially located him and confirmed his safety.
Officials say Hodge is known to wander along Highway 62. He has some remaining mental impairments after suffering a stroke. He is described as 5’9” and weighs 180 pounds.
