About 40 veterans and family members came to the Don Jones Memorial Park in Central Point for food and live music.
The event was put on by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Clinics.
One local veteran, Damend Evans, says the gesture of appreciation is welcome for those coming home to unfamiliar surroundings.
“It’s common for troops to have guilt or to feel unsure about their service,” said Evans. “And with support from family and friends, it just makes it all better. It’s great”
Evans returned from service in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2005.
He says services and appreciation for veterans has improved noticeably in those eight years.
