MEDFORD, Ore. — There were many Veterans Day events in Southern Oregon. At Veterans Memorial Park, people marked the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.
Dozens of people came to the event where they heard a speech from a woman who thanked U.S. service men and woman for their efforts to protect South Koreans.
Esther Lee Virizi’s father was killed by the North Koreans when she was a baby. She was carried on her sisters back for months while her family looked for shelter. Virizi was instrumental in getting the Korean War Memorial in Medford.
“His is my honor. And people of the Korean people saw this too so I’m very happy it turned out very well,” said Vaziri.
Korean War veterans at the ceremony say their war should be remembered just as people recall World War II and Vietnam.
