MEDFORD, Ore. — Fire investigators are now considering an early morning house fire “suspicious.” The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in the 1000 block of easy street in Medford.
Fire crews arrived on scene shortly after the 911 phone call was made and were able to contain the fire to the garage and attic.
Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but the fire more than likely started in the garage by some kind of heat source. This leads them to believe there were also people squatting in the house at the time. The fire is not being considered arson.
“I don’t think anyone specifically meant into burn the house down,” said Brian Fish, Battalion Chief with the Medford Fire District. “There’s not enough evidence to make us even think that.”
The fire did knock the power out for some neighbors in the area. The power has since been restored.
