MEDFORD, Ore. – A Southern Oregon tribe says comments by Oregon’s governor against Measure 82 and 83 should not impact their plans for a casino in Medford. Representatives from the Coquille Tribe says it will move forward on casino plans in Medford.
Governor Kitzhaber has opposed a planned private casino near Wood Village, because of the existing agreement with local tribes, allowing each to operate one casino without competition. The Coquille Tribe said that agreement does not apply to its situation, because their plan is a class-2 facility, which includes machines, but no table games.
A representative for Governor Kitzhaber would only say the governor supports the one-tribe, one-casino plan, and did not go into specifics about the Coquille proposal.
