SALEM, Ore. — Union workers from all Oregon state universities have authorized a strike that could go into effect the same week classes are supposed to start.
Members of the Service Employees International Union say their expected strike date is September 30th. Bargainers haven’t reached an agreement on a two-year contract for classified workers in the union.
The university system is offering one year of step increases, while the union wants two. The union members says they do not want to strike. The union says there will be strike headquarters set up at every campus.
They say their goal is to come to an agreement that restores economic security for their members.
