MEDFORD, Ore. — Staff members of a local non-profit are warning the community after reports of people impersonating volunteers and asking for money.
The director of the United Way of Jackson County said her office received a phone call from a man who claimed two men came to his door asking for donations for the United Way.
The resident did not give them any money, and quickly called the United Way office, who reported it to police. Officials soon found out this had not been the first time the scam was attempted.
“After word got out on Facebook and through social media, we started to get calls from five or six people and some traffic on our Facebook page that said it’s been happening for the last two weeks,” Dee Anne Everson said with United Way of Jackson County.
United Way staff said no one from their office would ever go door-to-door asking for donations.
