MEDFORD, Ore. — City leaders hope that a major expansion at a local sports park will bring more money to Medford.
U.S. Cellular Park will begin construction on Phase 4 later this year, to build three additional fields for baseball and soccer. The construction will also create new parking areas at the facility.
The city is currently taking bids from companies to install the new artificial turf for those fields.
The park has brought in millions of dollars for the city of Medford for the past several years through various sports tournaments and events.
“In implementing these new fields, our hope is to be able to bring and broaden the tournament sizes the national and west coast tournaments here in Medford,” said city councilor Eli Matthews.
Medford Parks and Recreation Director Brian Sjothun said the goal is to have the new fields completed by the end of September.
