MEDFORD, Ore. — Within a span of minutes, Oregon State Police respond to two incidents of people running into traffic on Interstate 5.
At 9 a.m., troopers arrived at milepost 20, where a man suffering from a mental health episode was running into traffic. He was not hit, and was taken to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment.
15 minutes later, another man was hit by a car on I-5 after he ran onto the road near the Table Rock overpass. He was not seriously hurt, and was arrested and taken to RRMC. Oregon State Police say that man was high on some kind of drugs.
“People who have mental health issues or drug issues and they’re out on the freeway, and they make one wrong move and they can be a statistic. So we try the best we can to take care of that and get them the proper health that they need,” said Bill Matson, with Oregon State Police.
The drivers of the car in the crash were not hurt.
