Trevor Emptage pleaded guilty to assault in the second degree. This comes more than a year after his 1-year-old foster child was sent to the hospital with severe burns after Emptage gave her a bath in scalding hot water.
As the 30-year-old read a prepared statement, the judge stopped him, saying his words raised a red flag.
“I stand before you today having made a terrible mistake to my family and my Sister-in-Law’s family,” Emptage stated in court. “I am very sad…”
“Let me just stop you there…” the judge interrupted.
The judge once again asked Emptage if he understood he pleaded guilty to knowingly burning his foster-child and niece. Emptage said yes and was sentenced to nearly three years behind bars with three years post-prison supervision.
