Tree Scarred from Lightning Strike

MEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford couple got an up-close encounter with last night’s lightning. Amazingly, no one was hurt and nothing they owned was damaged.

The lightning did not strike the house, it struck just a few inches from the house. As you can imagine that the couple is still feeling a little shocked about the whole thing.

Kevin Wilson of Medford says he and his wife were getting ready for dinner last night, and Kevin was tracking the storm on his computer. Suddenly, there was a bright flash and the loudest boom they had ever heard.

They knew it was a nearby lightning strike. This morning, he went outside and found bark on his car and his lawn, then looked up and saw the lightning scar on a tree in his front yard.

That tree is just inches away from his kitchen window, but there was no damage to his home. The tree also did not catch on fire, and still had all of its limbs. Wilson says he’s thankful that the lightning strike stayed outside.

“As close as we were to it, it could have come right through the house, it could have hit one of us, it could have hit something in the house, and it could have hit the computer and blew the computer up,” said Kevin Wilson.

Wilson said he plans on having the tree looked at to make sure there is no damage of its limbs falling on to his home.
