NEAR REDDING, CALIF. — It’s not every day that tornadoes are reported in California, but on Wednesday several were spotted on the ground all in one day across Northern California.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC), a government agency that issues daily outlooks regarding severe weather potential, is reporting four tornadoes made contact with the ground in Glenn and Placer Counties Wednesday. The tornadoes were all spotted near I-5, south of Redding and north of Sacaramento. One tornado was just a few miles north and east of Sacramento.
The SPC received reports of a row of almond trees being blown down, car windows blown in and walnut trees down as well from one of these four tornadoes.
National Weather Service meteorologists will be on the ground Thursday surveying the damage done from these tornadoes to estimate wind speed and determine the strengths.
