KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — A scrap metal business has a big clean up job after a huge black plume of smoke rose from Klamath Falls on Monday evening.
Fire fighters from Klamath County District 1 rushed to the intersection of Avalon Street and Hilyard Avenue, where they found the yard at Hamilton Metals consumed by flames. Soon after, city police arrived to help with traffic and Kinsley Field sent crews out as part of their mutual aid agreement.
Fire fighters say no one was at the business when the fire began around 5:30. Crews say it likely started because of a smoldering object left over from the welding torches and various materials used at the shop.
