GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Counties that rely on federal timber dollars have a few hundred thousand dollars more in the current budget.
The 2013 timber dollar amounts were reduced because of the federal sequestration, but then, federal cuts were not as deep as expected.
On Thursday, the Department of the Interior announced Jackson County will be receiving $765,000. Josephine County is receiving more than $580,000, Klamath County is getting $735, 000 and Curry County is getting $208,000. Lake County is receiving just over a million dollars.
These amounts are “Payments In Lieu of Taxes” – or PILT dollars – paid to counties in lieu of federal taxes on a combined 8 million acres of federal land.
