NEAR BRIDGE, Ore. — Fire officials say three small fires along Highway 42 on Wednesday was caused by a flat tire resulting in damage to the rim and axel of a boat trailer being towed.
The fires were discovered by a Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) engine around 2:00 p.m., two miles west of Bridge. Officials say the three fires burned about ¾ of an acre.
The quick response kept the fires from growing and threatening homes in the area. No injuries have been reported and the fires were contained by 5:00 pm.
CFPA, Myrtle Point RFD and Bridge RFD responded with a total of six engines, two tenders and 28 fire fighters. Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Transportation also responded and traffic was controlled with flaggers for about three hours.
