MEDFORD, Ore. — The high school sports season ended in early June, but ten local baseball players will get one last chance to represent their high schools in the state All-Star Series. The top 6A and 5A teams will play in one series at Goss Stadium at Oregon State. The 4A will have its series in Roseburg while the 3A, 2A and 1A will play at Linfield College.
North Medford’s Taylor Raff is one of the Southern Oregon players that will suit up to represent the South All-Stars over the weekend. Raff helped lead the Black Tornado to a conference championship and a 22-7 record this past spring. After this weekend, Raff will continue playing ball this summer with the Medford Mustangs, but this series has special meaning for the senior.
“It feels great,” said Raff. “There’s a ton of good guys that play in this conference and in this area and it’s a real honor to be one of those three that actually get to go and play. I’m going to make sure I leave my mark out there for the last time I ever represent North Medford. It’s a great school and I want to leave my mark.”
Other Southern Oregon All-Stars include Crater’s Evan Erskine and Ashalnd’s Jamie Flynn in the 6A-5A game, Hidden Valley’s Tyler Gulbransen and Jaime Schmidt along with Marco Garmendia and Josh Cowell (North Valley), and Joey Whisler (Klamath Union) and Dylan Smith (Mazama) will all represent the 4A. Cascade Christian’s Daniel Scottow is the Rogue Valley’s lone representative in the 3A, 2A, 1A game.
