Swimming Pool To Accommodate New Disability Act Decision

By Rob Scott

MEDFORD, Ore. — Swimming pools around the country will have mandatory federal changes by the end of January 2013.

The U.S. Department of Justice, following an Americans Disability Act decision from 2010, will require all public swimming pools to have accessible means of entry, primarily either a sloped entry or a pool lift. Southern Oregon public pools are preparing for the changes.

No federal funds will be used to help cover the costs of the modifications. Super 8 estimates it will cost them about $12,000 to install two pool lifts, one for the hot tub and one for the pool.
