NEAR GOLD HILL, Ore. – A suspected car thief, who allegedly abandoned a stolen car after crashing it near Gold Hill, is on the run.
Oregon State Police confirmed that a vehicle was totaled on the Rock Point Bridge off of Exit 43 along Interstate 5. They were able to determine that the vehicle had been stolen from Medford last week.
OSP believe that there were three suspects in the car at the time of the crash, none of the three were in the car when they arrived. They were able to track down the two passengers, who they believe were visiting from California. The driver was able to elude OSP officers on foot.
K9 and Jackson County Sheriffs Units were called in to aid in the search, but the suspect jumped in the Rogue River and was able to escape. No names have been released in this case and the investigation continues into the crash.
