MEDFORD, Ore. — While Medford students are enjoying the second week of spring break, Tuesday the school board will begin reviewing applicants for their superintendent search.
Current superintendent, Dr. Phil Long, will retire at the end of June. To assist in the search, an agency out of Iowa that specializes in hiring superintendents has been brought in, and Tuesday the applicants will be presented for the first time to the school board.
“They recruit superintendents to school districts all over the country. We wanted a nationwide search, but we also wanted to look in our own backyard, obviously, but we don’t want to leave any rock unturned in finding the best candidate for this job,” Medford School Board Chair Jeff Thomas.
Tuesday morning, there will be a public meeting where interview questions for the candidates will be discussed. Then, a closed door executive session will begin where the candidates will be presented. The school board will bring in their final selections April 8th through the 10th and hope to have a new superintendent selected by the middle of April.
