The teams had to build robots out of Lego toys. On Saturday, the robots had to traverse a disaster zone. The students had two minutes to see how many missions the robots could complete.
“So what we are trying to teach them is problem solving skills. So we’re trying to get kids to understand what they need to do and how they can solve the problem,” said Kyle Hanson, a referee at the event.
St. Mary’s School hosted the competition. Two teams from Medford and one team from Ashland were among the Southern Oregon schools at the competition.
The winner will move on to compete in a state competition in Portland.
