MEDFORD, Ore. – A group of high school students took over the Jackson County courthouse on Saturday to show off their legal skills in all-day mock trials.
It’s all part of the regional finals in a statewide competition. Attorneys coach the student teams, pretending to defend or prosecute cases for a jury of legal professionals and community members.
“I love how you really learn how to argue, to be a speaker,” said Amber Moore, a Senior at St. Mary’s and participant in the competition. “But doing mock trial has made me realize how much hard work it requires to be a lawyer, and I’m not sure if I’m ready for that.”
The winners go on to compete in the state championships in Portland.
