MEDFORD, Ore. — So many people turned out at Monday’s Medford School Board meeting, the fire marshal had to move the meeting to the auditorium.
The school district and Medford Education Association have worked through dozens of hours of mediations so far, and are still no closer to reaching an agreement on a contract dispute.
Monday night, more than a hundred supporters of the M.E.A. turned out to the school board meeting hoping to support the teachers through presence and public comment.
“Do you not understand the price that this has on morale and relationship of teachers and management and for what gain,” one speaker said.
After only a handful of speakers, the meeting was interrupted and moved.
The official capacity for the room is 80, and with lines out the door the meeting was moved to the auditorium were the crowd was able to fit comfortably and safely.
