NEAR ASHLAND, Ore. — The Oregon Gulch Fire grew into California last week and fire crews from each side of the state line are working to contain it on their land. As far as paying for those efforts, fire crews abide by what they call a “You Order, You Pay” agreement. Oregon pays for what it orders for its lands. The same goes for California and CalFire.
“It’s kind of funny, there is no stateline when it comes to firefighting. The fire didn’t care, so we’ve had Oregon firefighters in California working very hard to support us we’ve had California working in Oregon to support them and there’s really no geographic boundary on this fire,” said Phill Veneris with CalFire, referring to the Oregon Gulch Fire.
