Ten Southern Oregon teams were in action on Tuesday, looking to earn a spot in the Baseball and Softball State Championships.
North Medford is headed back to the finals for the first time since 2009 after beating Clackamas 5-4 in nine innings. The win was the third straight extra inning win for the Black Tornado this post-season.
North will face South Salem in the title tilt. The Saxons scored five runs in the fifth in a 5-2 win over Crater. The loss ends an incredible run for the Comets, who came into the playoffs as a six seed.
It was a rough day for the Skyline Conference. Five teams entered the day, but only one will move on to Saturday’s Championship. In baseball, North Valley lost to Ontario 6-2, while Hidden Valley defeated Henley 5-4. In softball, Henley lost to Cascade 5-4 in a rematch of last year’s 4A State Championship Game. The Mazama girls also came up short, falling 3-1 to Banks.
Cascade Christian will represent Southern Oregon in the 3A Title Game. The Challengers blanked Bandon-Pacific 5-0 to set up a game with Santiam Christian for the 3A crown. In 2A/1A Softball, Glendale hammered Gold Beach 20-4.
