State Auction Brings Crowd to White City

auctionotspicWHITE CITY, Ore. — This weekend, thousands of items left in safety deposit boxes will be auctioned off in southern Oregon.

This is the first time in several years that the auctions are being held in our area, instead of Salem.

People from all over the state, as well as from out of state, are in southern Oregon for the auction.

Last year, $273,000 dollars of unclaimed property was auctioned off.

The money raised does not get spent by the state.

Instead, the money earns interest in trust in the common school fund until claimed by owners or their heirs and the interest is given to K-12 schools.

The Department of State Lands Unclaimed Property Manager, Patrick Tate, says “So there is a benefit to the state of Oregon until the owners do show up to claim their funds. So it kind of works out for everybody.”
