MEDFORD, Ore. — Students at Saint Mary’s School are accepting the challenge to do hundreds of community service hours to help raise money for 3-month-old Bauer White. Bauer is the first Sparrow child of this school year. Doctors say Bauer was born with a rare heart defect.
Bauer has holes in his heart that keep him from getting enough oxygen in his blood and he also has a chromosomal abnormality which is common with his heart condition. There are only a few people in the world with similar health problems.
Students will work 256 hours of community service and Rogue Disposal will be the sponsor. For each hour of community service work, students will earn Bauer’s family $10 to help with expenses related to his health concerns. Bauer will get heart surgery in October.
