Southern Oregon Housing Market Improving

By Sharon Ko

ASHLAND, Ore. — With lower inventory selling fast at higher prices, the housing market is starting to look up and realtors believe this trend is going to continue.

A national financial company is also predicting that three cities in Oregon will recover faster than any other city in the country. Inventory is the lowest it’s been in seven years in the rogue valley and brokers say combine that with buyers starting to get competitive on properties plus low interest rates and you have a great combination for sellers.

The Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service reported that inventory has dropped from 34 hundred on the market to 1,100 in the last four years.

With the current trend, FISERV, a National Financial Company, predicts that Medford is among three cities in Oregon that will recover faster than another area in the country; but local brokers don’t buy it.

Though brokers say the market is slowly recovering despite the high unemployment rate they say retirees moving into town should help. FISERV also mentioned that Corvallis and Eugene are the two other cities predicted to recover quickly out of any other city in the country.
