CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — Sunday afternoon Fire District 3 crews responded to a fully involved structure fire near Corey Road in Central Point. Fire crews say the barn is a total loss with damages estimated at $5,000. Firefighters say the barn owner was mowing the lawn about an hour before the fire started, and that might’ve been what caused it.
Before that, a barn on the 16,000 block of Highway 238 outside of Applegate burned to the ground. Applegate Fire responded and knocked down the fully involved structure. No people or animals were injured. The equipment had been removed from the barn for use, so it was spared. The fire did spread a small amount to the grass around it. The Oregon Department of Forestry also responded and will handle the investigation.
