ASHLAND, Ore. – Friday was the first day of the Paul Elliot Invitational in and the Southern Oregon volleyball team opened the party in style. They celebrated an early afternoon win over UC-Merced and then won an epic 5-set match over Biola, the fifth ranked team in the nation. SOU entered the second day of the Invite with the confidence carrying over from their big win, but they would match up against the Westminster Griffins. Westminster also entered the day at 2-0.
The Raiders looked strong in the first set. Led by the relentless attacking of Nikki Keller and Natalie Scheller, the team seem poised to continue their winning ways, but the Raiders seemed to lose some momentum halfway through the 2nd set. The Griffins went on a tear to take the 2nd and 3rd sets. SOU put up a fight in the 4th forcing the 5th set, but they couldn’t close this one out. The Griffins shock the Raiders winning 3-2.
