MEDFORD, Ore. – A Memorial Day weekend soccer tournament is expected to bring in thousands of participants, and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local economy.
The Rogue Memorial Challenge kicks off Saturday at fields across Medford. 150 teams are playing this year, which is up 15 from last year. More than 2,000 players and coaches will also be coming into the Medford area, many of them from out of town.
The Medford Chamber of Commerce says each person brings about $145 per day into the local economy.
“It’s huge for our local business community,” said organizer Kevin Primerano. “Every one of these teams is spending money in local hotels and restaurants and businesses, and to be able to provide back to our community is great for everybody.”
Games will be played at North and South Medford High Schools, Jefferson Elementary School, U.S. Cellular Park, and Fichtner Mainwaring Park.
