Interstate Median Fire Contained Quickly

grass fire aug 31NEAR GOLD HILL, Ore. — Fire crews knocked down a grass fire along Interstate 5 on Saturday afternoon within minutes of sparking.

“Luckily the grass is low enough so the intensity wasn’t great. Didn’t have any spot fires, so we didn’t have anything else to consolidate as far as that goes, so the fire was out quickly,” explained Fire Protection Specialist Justin Corns.

The fire charred less than an acre of grass in the median between north and southbound lanes near milepost 47, between Rogue River and Gold Hill.
