SISKIYOU COUNTY, Ore. — An innovative sex offender watch program has come to Siskiyou County, allowing residents to view the sex offenders living near any address important to them. Sheriff Jon Lopey announced the county is the latest in California to implement “OffenderWatch.”
The program allows law enforcement in the state to collaboratively share information on sex offenders’ movements, history, and activities; anywhere, not just in their “home” area. The system includes an alert function, which provides real time info, saving smaller towns and counties weeks of delays while waiting on paperwork or confirmation.
Sheriff Lopey says another vital part is a citizen’s component, where residents can log onto the website and view the registered sex offenders near their home, work, or children’s schools.
