MEDFORD, Ore. – Only four years after becoming a pitcher, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected former North Medford standout Braden Shipley with the 15th overall pick in the MLB Amateur Draft. Shipley started his career with the Black Tornado as a shortstop, but developed as a pitcher during his junior year. A successful run at the University of Nevada helped Shipley rise up the draft ranks. Although some mock drafts had Shipley going as high as sixth overall to the Miami Marlins, the 21-year-old says he’s happy to end up in Arizona. NewsWatch 12’s Brandon Kamerman caught up with Shipley at his grandparents’ house moments after getting drafted.
