MEDFORD, Ore. – At the beginning of the night, South Medford and Grants Pass were battling for 2nd place in the Southern Oregon Conference. By the end of the game, the Panthers were tied for 1st place. Roseburg upset North Medford on Tuesday leaving the winner of the game at South Medford in a tie with the Black Tornado. The winner was indeed the South Medford Panthers.
South carried a strong 4th quarter to a 61-48 win over the Cavemen. Grants Pass was able to keep it close throughout the contest, but a buzzer-beating tip-in by Trenton Monical at the end of the 3rd quarter gave the Panthers much-needed momentum. Carrying a 43-35 lead into the final period, the Panthers played stifling defense, forcing turnovers and converting on fast breaks. In the end, the Panthers tied their city rival for 1st, and they have a bye this weekend.
