Medford, Ore. — Crimes linked to stealing are up dramatically in Medford in the first three months of the year.  The department says car thefts have increased 115% from last year.  Burglary is up 30%, robbery cases increased by 19%, and theft by 18%.

Lt. Mike Budreau said one reason for this is repeat offenders, “There’s just a few individuals that are going to be responsible for several cases.  In fact we made an arrest on one individual from Josephine County that was coming down here stealing cars.  We arrested him for six different cars, but we believe he’s responsible for a lot more.”

He says drug addiction is also a huge contributor to the increases seen in these cases.
