NEAR CRESCENT, Ore. — Oregon State Police are investigating a serious injury traffic crash along Highway 97 south of Crescent in Klamath County.
OSP reports two people were injured Friday morning in a traffic crash involving a commercial truck and a pickup. The highway was blocked over two hours and one lane is now open for area traffic until the scene is cleared. A previous report of downed power lines was wrong.
Police said a 1991 Toyota pickup was starting to turn left from the southbound lane of Highway 97 near milepost 187 when a 2013 Freightliner truck attempting to pass the pickup struck it. After impact, the pickup traveled off the southbound shoulder and the truck overturned, blocking the highway.
The driver of the Toyota pickup was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Police say safety restraint use is pending confirmation. The driver of the truck received minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to the same hospital in Bend. Police say he was using safety restraints.
