Sen. Wyden Pushes for More Logging

LoggingGRANTS PASS, Ore. — Josephine County voted down a tax hike last week to restore public safety, but help could soon be on its way if lawmakers pass an upcoming bill.

Senator Ron Wyden is pushing for a new plan to increase logging on O&C lands. Wyden is proposing to keep the lands under federal control but allow half to be managed for timber and the other by environmentalists.

“The proposal that I’ve outlined is a framework for legislation that can bring together rural communities, forest product industries,  environmental people and scientists,” said Senator Wyden.

Wyden is pushing to make this a bill by the end of the year.
