Second Death Confirmed In Hwy 199 Crash

MEDFORD, Ore. — Oregon State Police (OSP) confirmed a second person died following Wednesday afternoon’s single vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 199 near Cave Junction. According to a hospital official where she was being treated, the female passenger died Thursday.

According to OSP, on February 6, 2013 at approximately 1:54 p.m., a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by 75-year-old Floyd Dale Long was southbound Highway 199 near milepost 37 when it failed to negotiate a curve. The pickup crossed the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a tree.

Long, who was using safety restraints, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Passenger 65-year-old Sandra Crockett was transported by Mercy Flights to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford for treatment of serious injuries until she passed away.

OSP troopers from the Grants Pass work site were assisted at the scene by Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois Valley Fire District, AMR ambulance, Mercy Flights, and ODOT.
