NEAR GOLD HILL, Ore. – A suspect is still on the lose after a high speed chase outside of Gold Hill on Monday and deputies said Toby Martinez is already wanted for an alleged involvement in a Medford shooting, and if he is not found by Tuesday, they will issue another warrant for his arrest.
The high speed chase started near Kirkland and Blackwell Road, ending on the 12000 block of Blackwell. A deputy responding to a domestic violence call, was driving behind Martinez when Martinez began driving recklessly and then took off on foot near Interstate 5.
It is believed Martinez thought police were following him. Jackson County Sheriff Deputies, Oregon State Police, a helicopter and K-9 unit searched for him for several hours. The last place they tracked him to was near Central Point.
“There’s several places he could be hiding, but we searched all of those areas with a K-9 unit and we felt that we exhausted our resources in finding him in this area, so he’s no longer in this area,” explained Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Groom.
Deputies could not confirm with NewsWatch12 the details of the shooting incident they believed Martinez was previously involved in.
