Reward Offered for Escaped Inmate

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Police are offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of an inmate who escaped from the Klamath County Detention Center early Thursday morning.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Kenneth Robert Banes was being escorted to a fenced yard outside the Klamath County Detention Center just before 5 a.m. when he ran from a corrections officer and escaped through a fence.

Banes was in custody on a parole violation and is considered a non-violent offender based on his past crimes that include burglaries and car theft. Klamath County Sheriff’s said Banes has been an inmate worker since August 20th and been in custody in Klamath County since August 15th.The Klamath Falls City Police, Klamath Community Corrections and local law enforcement are actively searching for Banes.

Later that same morning, a Klamath County detective found some of the jail clothing believed to have been worn by Banes in the basement of an apartment occupied by an acquaintance of Banes. The apartment is located on Main Street in downtown Klamath Falls.

Banes is believed to have changed into blue jeans and a white t-shirt. He is 5’9″ 132 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.
