GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A Grants Pass school is teaching students how to make healthy eating a part of daily life.
Parkside Elementary has just launched taste testing as a reward for the school’s “Caught You Eating Good” Program. During the first taste test, 12 students got to try several foods, including hummus. The school says it’s teaching students how to eat well and how to choose the correct portions.
“We’re helping them understand what the food is and what it does for the body, you’re not just filling a void, you’re fueling your body, giving it energy for the whole day,” explained the Parkside Elementary Kitchen Manager, Cindy Shepherd.
Through the program students who eat well throughout the school year are entered into a drawing. Their names are picked each week to take part in an activity in the cafeteria.
