GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Portland will be host to some of the Southern Oregon’s finest wines, cheeses and entertainment this Sunday. Event officials are hoping it could boost tourism and spread the word about the featured businesses.
Southern Oregon businesses are making final preparations for this weekend’s Savor Southern Oregon event in Portland, which will showcase more than just wineries. Southern Oregon businesses included in the first ever savor Southern Oregon include the Rogue Valley Creamery, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Troon Vineyard.
Similar events have been held in the past but only featured wineries. President of the Southern Oregon Wine Association Chris Martin thinks having an event showcasing what Southern Oregon has to offer could bring more people down I-5.
“Bring Southern Oregon right down to the center of Portland. Show people not only the wines of Southern Oregon but also the artisan products as well as all of the other things that are offered down here from a tourist and destination perspective,” said Martin.
Savor Southern Oregon will showcase gourmet cheeses, artisan chocolates and 100 Southern Oregon wines. Rogue Valley Creamery will be there in hopes of spreading word of their award-winning blue cheeses. The event will take place Sunday, September 16th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Director Park in Portland.
Event organizers hope Savor Southern Oregon will help boost tourism in the southern part of the state.
