GRANTS PASS, Ore. — In an effort to save the Josephine County Fairgrounds, 4-H participants are auctioning off pumpkins. All the money raised from the auction will go directly to the fairgrounds.
Fort Vannoy Farms donated more than 100 pumpkins to the cause, then Josephine County 4-H participants, cut, carved, and painted each one.
The pumpkins will be auctioned off today from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the fairground’s farmers market. They are expecting the auction to bring in around $8,000.
“It makes me feel even better because they are helping me try to save this fairground,” said Fairgrounds Manager Mary Groves.
For the fair to continue next year, at least $140,000 needs to be raised between now and next summer. Next year will be the fair’s 100th anniversary.
