MEDFORD, Ore. – More than a thousand families are expected to need holiday help from the Salvation Army this winter.
Sign-ups were held Tuesday for the organization’s Christmas assistance program. Families will receive food for a Christmas dinner and toys for their children. The Salvation Army says it signed up more than 400 families today and expects to reach 1,600 for this holiday season, that’s about the same number they saw last year.
“Probably about three or four years ago when the recession hit, that’s when we started seeing a lot of people coming to us for the first time, and that trend continues, this year we have new people come who’ve never come to us before,” said Jackie Agee of the Salvation Army.
The next days to sign up for assistance are Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and December 4th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sign-ups will be held at 226 North Ross Lane.
