Salt Creek Fire

NEAR LAKE SHASTA, Calif. —  The Salt Creek Fire burning north of Redding is now fully contained. Over 100 fire personnel worked to contain the 980-acre fire.

It started last Wednesday, forcing the evacuation of several people and shutting down a part of Interstate 5 for a brief time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

FROM FRIDAY: Nearly 1,000 acres have burned in Northern California. Fire crews were able to get 30% containment Friday on the Salt Creek Fire burning near Lake Shasta.

The progress and fires direction has allowed evacuations to be lifted on the west side of Interstate 5.

The fire, which started Wednesday, has also taken out high voltage power lines; a couple hundred people are still without power.
