EAGLE POINT, Ore. — The town of Eagle Point could soon be getting mass transit. The Rogue Valley Transportation District is working with the town of Eagle Point to bring a bus route to their area.
In order for RTVD to extend their bus route, Eagle Point will have to annex themselves into the RVTD district. Therefore, property tax payers in that area will see their taxes increase 17 cents per $1000.
The route will cost roughly $200,000 and will be funded through tax dollars and federal dollars.
“It’s not a money maker but it’s something, said RVTD general manager”, Julie Brown. “We look at the needs of our community and people’s destinations. It would help us in achieving our idea of providing RCC with service out in west White City and finishing up the first tier of our plan.”
In order for the expansion to continue, city officials are thinking about having Eagle Point residents vote for the mass transit expansion. If all goes as planned and voters do vote in favor and Eagle Point is annexed into the district, residents will see the bus route in place beginning sometime in 2015.
